About Teen Court
Teen Court is a diversion program for youth that have been arrested for minor crimes. It provides those youth the opportunity to engage in the judicial process in a peer-based environment that is supportive and educational. Middle and high school student volunteers conduct a sentencing hearing in which they act as the attorneys, bailiff, and clerk. The youth present their side of the story to a jury of their peers (also teen volunteers). Those peers then decide on the appropriate consequences (within a set parameter) for the youth.
Our Mission
The mission of Leon County Teen Court is to provide a peer-based, supportive, and educational courtroom environment in which youth can resolve their juvenile delinquency case as an alternative to traditional juvenile court. It is also our mission to give Leon County middle and high school students a hands-on experience to learn about the judicial system, while serving their community in a real and impactful way. Teen Court meets every Tuesday at the Judge Charles A. Francis Leon County Court Annex at 1920 Thomasville Road from 6:30 – 7:45.
